In the picturesque hills of Vermont sits this brand new 3,500 sq.ft. energy efficient home. The home is designed to have an open floor plan with lots of space throughout the main living area. Unfortunately, all of this open space can create some problems. First, the heating and air conditioning were not considered during the original design leaving little room for ductwork. The other problem was how to eliminate drafts in some areas and dead spots in others. Traditional air conditioning units typically dump the air into a room which creates these symptoms. To combat these problems and keep the home energy efficient, Eugene Boisvert Plumbing & Heating suggested The Unico System.
The Unico System relies on a principle called aspiration which gently mixes the air in the room, eliminating drafts and keeping temperatures even across the entire room. Because of the small diameter ducts, superior quality, and virtually no duct leakage, it was the perfect choice for this installation. The owners wanted this to be a high efficiency, green home and they have done just that. Eugene Boisvert Plumbing & Heating installed a 95% efficient Viessmann Vitodens gas boiler with two Viessmann Vitosol 300-T solar collectors for the low temperature radiant and hydronic heat and hot water. They also installed a Venmar EKO HRV air exchanger used in conjunction with a steam humidifier. All of this equipment is used with The Unico System which provides the cooling and warm air heating. The Unico Systems, consists of a blower module, a 3 1/2 ton A/C module for cooling, a heating module for warm air and the Unico Advanced Control Board to optimize efficiency.
Gene and his team installed 24 outlets high in the ceilings throughout the home to get the best air distribution possible, creating an efficient, comfortable environment.
Because of The Unico System, the owners are able to have a central air conditioning system that fits into their energy efficient plans while not being invasive to their home. The homeowner claims, “The system runs beautifully and the house is always comfortable. Eugene Boisvert did a great job and we’re as happy as ever.”
